H Vinoth’s Sathuranga Vettai Completes 10 Years

Sathuranga Vettai, a groundbreaking Tamil movie directed by H Vinoth in his directorial debut, has reached its 10th anniversary since its initial release. The film, a heist thriller starring Natraj, aka Natty, in the main role, is currently available for viewing on Disney+ Hotstar.

There are only a handful of movies that manage to make a significant impact on the film industry. One prime example is the 2014 film Satturanga Vettai, directed by the then newcomer H Vinoth. This movie hit the screens on July 18, 2014, and turned out to be a huge critical and commercial success, establishing Vinoth as a promising filmmaker. The film is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar for those interested in watching it again. The plot revolves around a character named Gandhi Babu, who, despite his name, is a skilled con artist with no qualms about deceiving others for financial gain. The talented cinematographer and actor Natty portrayed the lead role.

In addition to Natty, the movie features Ishaara Nair, Ponvannan, Ilavarasu, Piraisoodan, and others. The music for Sathuranga Vettai was composed by Sean Roldan, with KG Venkatesh serving as the cinematographer. SP Raja Sethupathi edited the film. Produced by the late filmmaker and actor Manobala under Manobala’s Picture House, the movie was remade in Telugu as BluffMaster and is currently being remade in Kannada as Jagath Khiladi. After the success of the initial installment, plans were made for a follow-up film with director Vinoth collaborating with Thirrupathi Brothers banner, the same distributor of the 2014 movie. Unfortunately, the project failed to materialize due to financial constraints, leading the filmmakers to withdraw from the venture. Following Manobala’s involvement, Salim director NV Nirmal Kumar was brought on board as the director, with Trisha and Arvind Swamy being selected as the lead actors for Sathuranga Vettai 2. However, the film’s release faced further delays due to financial issues on Manobala’s end and was eventually shelved indefinitely following his passing. As of now, the release status of the sequel to Sathuranga Vettai is still being determined.
