Google announced today that its Gemini AI chatbot assistant for the Messages app is now available in several new countries – India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Turkey. The expansion allows more users to access Gemini’s capabilities for crafting messages and brainstorming ideas.
In addition to being available on select Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices previously, the Gemini app can now be used on any Android phone with 6GB of RAM or higher according to Google’s support documentation.
While Gemini is currently only offered in French for Canada and English for certain regions, Google states they plan to roll it out to more languages and locations over time. Notably, the European Union countries still do not have access.
For the Indian market specifically, Google highlighted their excitement given the “strong mobile-first culture” there. The Gemini app will support English along with nine Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Google is also launching their more advanced Gemini offering powered by the 1.5 Pro model with expanded capabilities like a 1 million token context window, document uploading, and data analysis tools. This Gemini Advanced tier is also becoming available in the newly added countries.
As Google continues expanding the availability of its AI messaging assistant globally, users in India and other newly supported regions can now download the Gemini app and begin utilizing its language model skills for an enhanced messaging experience on their Android devices.
