Godzilla Minus One OTT Relese Details

After a phased theatrical release spanning over six months, commencing in Japan and subsequently reaching the US, as well as several other countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, and ultimately the UK, the highly anticipated monster film Godzilla Minus One has finally arrived in India. However, it is unfortunate that Indian audiences will not have the opportunity to experience it on the big screen.

The latest movie from Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus One, is now available on Netflix streaming in India. It was released on June 1, 2024, without any prior announcement. The film offers audio options in Japanese, English, Hindi, and Tamil, with subtitles available in English and Japanese. Despite being made with a budget of USD 10-12 million, Godzilla Minus One managed to earn USD 115 million at the box office. However, it is believed that the earnings could have been even higher if the movie had a simultaneous worldwide release. Viewers who saw Godzilla’s destructive rampage on the big screen considered it the top movie of 2023 and a standout in the Godzilla franchise.

It emerged as the top-grossing Japanese film of the year, surpassing Shin Godzilla as the most successful Japanese Godzilla movie. Godzilla Minus One garnered widespread acclaim for its exceptional visual effects, skillful direction, well-crafted screenplay, and compelling characters, all of which can be attributed to the talented Takashi Yamazaki. The film’s music and social commentary also received praise from critics. Notably, despite its modest budget and relatively unknown cast, Godzilla Minus One achieved what the extravagant monsterverse productions of Hollywood failed to do – it delivered a captivating story. In contrast to recent Hollywood adaptations that portrayed Godzilla and King Kong as mere companions to the human characters, this film brings back the true essence of Godzilla as a formidable menace. Godzilla Minus One is set during the closing stages of World War II when Japan is in the process of reconstruction following the devastating atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This period drama revolves around Koichi Shikishima (played by Ryunosuke Kamiki), a former Kamikaze pilot who unexpectedly comes face to face with Godzilla on a remote Japanese outpost island.
