AP BJP chief Daggubati Purandheswari had been very critical of the ruling YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh. She had been making several uncharitable comments against the YSR Congress government in the state.
She also tries to favour the TDP which is headed by her brother-in-law N Chandrababu Naidu. She is very keen on extending support to the TDP, though heading the BJP in the state. Her statements are helping the TDP in the state than her own BJP.
When she was in the Congress and was the Union Minister in the UPA government, Purandheswari used to criticise the TDP. But now she is in the BJP and heading the AP state unit of the party. She is now targeting the YSR Congress.
Purandheswari and her husband Daggubati Venkateswara Rao criticised Chandrababu Naidu many a times. Venkateswara Rao had written a book on TDP split in 1995 and levelled several allegations of corruption against Chandrababu Naidu.
Surprisingly, now they are not speaking anything against Chandrababu Naidu. Everything they speak today is to help the family and the caste. The Kamma community is mostly rallying behind Chandrababu Naidu and the Telugu Desam Party. Thus, she is also going with the flow unmindful of her position as the BJP state unit president.
One wonders whether she is heading the BJP or TDP in Andhra Pradesh politics. Her every statement against the YSR Congress government is aimed at benefiting the TDP and not the BJP. Even the BJP senior leaders are worried about her criticism of the YSR Congress. They have also smelled her statements and their intentions to help the TDP.
Going by this, the BJP leadership may not continue her as the party chief in Andhra Pradesh for the 2024 general election to the Assembly. Her continuation would definitely cause some damage to the BJP and give some advantage to the TDP.
It is to be seen how the BJP national leadership would react to her statements and her work to support the TDP in the days to come.
