Finale Review: House of The Dragon Season 2

“Breathtaking drama with whistle-worthy moments”

To be precise, this finale episode gives us mixed moments as we delve into it—not in a bad way, but certainly in good terms. Firstly, you’ll get to see the breathtaking drama that sets off the episode well. The slow-motion shots in the last 5 minutes build our anticipation for the coming season, leaving us hungry for more. However, the fact that this season had fewer episodes compared to season 1 makes us yearn for more and leaves us eagerly waiting for another year to see what happens next.

As for the finale episode itself, it isn’t a grand finale with huge wars, as one might have expected given the climax of Episode 7. But it’s important to remember that this is a television show, not a film, and that makes it more interesting. The cracks that appeared throughout the season finally start to come together—whether it’s Daemon’s storyline or the threads involving Corlys Velaryon that have been revealed.

This episode serves as one of the best, not only for Princess Rhaenyra, the rightful Queen, but also for the fans. Characters like Daemon and Alicent, who have the potential to take the spotlight, finally get their moments, which were missing in the season except for in small parts.

Highlights include Ulf’s casual behavior in the chambers, the scenes between Helaena and Aemond, and the Harrenhal sequence where Daemon bows to the Queen, followed by a glimpse of what’s to come in the future of Game of Thrones. Not to forget, the gripping drama of the conversation between Rhaenyra and Alicent, which echoes Episode 3 but under very different circumstances this time around.

The Lannister storyline also added an interesting layer to this finale, and it will be fascinating to see how things unfold in the next season.

Overall Verdict for Season 2:

It’s a very good season, but it can’t be compared to Season 1, which served as an introduction and emergence of the characters. In this season, some characters rise, some fall, and others begin to find their path, like Daemon. There are certainly many standout moments.

Personally, Episodes 3, 7, 4, 8, and 1 are my favorites in that order.
