Story:

Govardhan (Vijay Deverakonda) is a middle-class man who is strict-budgeted and meets Indhu (Mrunal Thakur) when she becomes a tenant at his penthouse. He initially tries to avoid her, but falls in love with her, only to be shocked by Indhu’s true reason for staying in his house. Govardhan then tries to give an answer to Indhu and become rich, but he bumps into Indhu again when he finds a new job. What happened after that? How does Indhu deal with Govardhan’s scorn? All these questions can only be answered after watching the movie.

Performances:

Vijay Deverakonda’s character was an upgraded version of his character from Geetha Govindam. He looked apt for the character and did well in both funny and emotional scenes. Vijay was also convincing in action sequences. Mrunal Thakur performed well as Indhu and continued her good work from previous films. Vennela Kishore could bring some laughs. Senior actress Rohini was fine. Jagapathi Babu gets a brief role, and his presence was felt. Other actors such as Vasuki and Abhinaya were fit for the role.

Analysis:

The film chronicles the tale of a financially disciplined middle-class man who falls in love with a woman but ends their relationship due to her actions. The story is simple but what makes Family Star work is the connectivity factor because of the lead pair and entertainment. Vijay and Mrunal looked and carried the entire film on their shoulders. Director Parasuram was able to get things right in crucial scenes, but he could have done better with the overall rhythm of the film. The first half and second half both are alike with the blend of romance, fun, and action but the latter one becomes a bit heavier.

Positives:

The establishment of Govardhan’s character as a middle-class man was perfectly done. His behavior with the family members and dealing with house expenses brought the fun in the first half. The romance track between Vijay and Mrunal was fine. The proposal scene, and the climax portions were well handled.

Negatives:

The initial moments of love track could have been better. Also, the USA episode in the second half could have been more entertaining. The film suffers from the regular up and downs in the pace. Gopi Sundar’s music was neat, but it is nowhere near to his previous outing with the same actor and director, Geetha Govindam.

Rating: (3/5)

Last Line: Slow but a neat entertainer
