Fahadh Faasil, renowned for his exceptional film choices and outstanding performances, has solidified his position as one of the top actors in contemporary Indian cinema. His latest release, Aavesham, has not only garnered immense success but has also established him as one of the most reliable stars in the Malayalam film industry. During a recent conversation with Baradwaj Rangan for Galatta Plus, Fahadh Faasil delved into Malayalam cinema. He highlighted the need for solid support from OTT platforms in the industry.

During his interview with the Galatta Plus YouTube channel, Fahadh Faasil, a renowned actor and film producer, highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the Malayalam film industry in securing strong support from OTT platforms. Despite significant growth in the sector, Faasil emphasized that the issue persists. This revelation from the acclaimed Aavesham star has surprised movie enthusiasts, given Malayalam cinema’s reputation as one of the top film industries in the country, particularly in recent years. The National Award recipient stressed the importance of establishing Malayalam films in theaters before securing an OTT deal. The actor-producer further highlighted that most movies from different Indian film industries effortlessly secure OTT deals. Fahadh Faasil emphasized that the streaming rights of films from other industries are often sold well before filming. The statements made by the producer of Premalu are undeniably accurate, considering that numerous recent Malayalam blockbusters faced difficulties in securing an OTT platform. Surprisingly, even the immensely successful Malayalam film Manjummel Boys faced challenges in obtaining an OTT deal despite its exceptional performance at the box office.

The prominent streaming service Amazon Prime Video has acquired the OTT rights for Aavesham for a substantial sum. Given the remarkable success of the film directed by Jithu Madhavan, it is likely that the movie will continue to have a prolonged run in theaters. On the other hand, the Fahadh Faasil-led movie is expected to premiere on OTT platforms in late May or early June 2024.
