Just four days after the highly successful Malayalam film Manjummel Boys was released on the OTT platform, another blockbuster started streaming. Yesterday, the popular comedy Aavesham became available on Amazon Prime Video within a month of its theatrical release, despite its continued success in cinemas. Directed by Jithu Madhavan, Aavesham is currently only available in its original Malayalam version with English subtitles, and there has been no announcement regarding a dubbed version yet.
Kannada viewers often express dissatisfaction when specific titles do not offer Kannada audio. However, this time, they have little reason to complain. Aavesham includes a significant amount of Kannada dialogue, primarily delivered by Fahadh Faasil’s character Ranga, a gangster from Bengaluru. Upon the movie’s release, Kannada audiences praised the actor’s Kannada pronunciation and were pleased that nearly half of the film’s dialogue was in Kannada. Now that the movie has been released on OTT platforms, Aavesham’s connection to Kannada culture continues to receive admiration from viewers, sparking conversations about the impact of a Kannada actor speaking a language other than Kannada. One online user described it as an “unofficial Kannada film,” while others praised FaFa for his dedication to speaking Kannada. Comments such as “FaFa’s Kannada is exceptional,” “The film is entirely in Kannada. FaFa’s Kannada is outstanding,” and “FaFa deserves recognition for his commitment to speaking Kannada” were also made. It has been reported that Fahadh received guidance on Kannada pronunciation from none other than Raj B Shetty.
Fahadh has expressed that Ranga’s backstory goes beyond being a failed actor turned gangster, according to reports. Director Jithu Madhavan, who apparently based the character on someone he encountered in Bengaluru, revealed that Ranga was an ardent admirer of a Kannada actor, believed by netizens to be Real Star Upendra.
