In a recent update, there is news regarding the release of Ekam, the highly anticipated debut web series produced by Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studios. However, the news is not as exciting as one would hope. Rakshit took to social media to provide details about the process of approving the first-ever Kannada web series under his banner. He mentioned that he had already viewed the final version of the series back in 2021. Unfortunately, despite his sincere efforts, Rakshit could not bring the show to the audience. As he now explains, the reason behind this is the lack of interest from mainstream OTT platforms in showcasing a Kannada web series. These platforms were not yet prepared for such content in the Kannada language.
It was pretty unexpected, to be honest, as Voot Select (now JioCinema) had already acquired Kannada Films such as Honeymoon, By Mistake, and Love You Abhi in the past. Additionally, the platform features two films produced by Rakshit – 777 Charlie and Sakutumba Sametha. If not JioCinema, SonyLIV appeared to be a suitable choice, considering their strong presence in the web series arena. Disney+Hotstar is also a significant player in regional web content. Although Rakshit did not disclose the platforms his team had approached previously, it has taken him three years to find an alternative option – sufficient time for any interested platform to come forward.
Rakshit, eager to introduce Ekam to the world, has taken the initiative to personally launch the show on its own platform. The anthology of 7 stories, Ekam, is set to premiere on www.ekamtheseries.com starting July 13th. However, it’s important to note that the show will not be available for free viewing. In the announcement video of Ekam, Sumanth revealed that they built a platform from scratch to offer a delightful viewing experience. He further announced that Ekam is now accessible to viewers at the price of a movie ticket. For just Rs 149, viewers can enjoy the episodes and a range of exclusive content. The showrunners are committed to sharing authentic stories and introducing them to a global audience.
