EC notices to Naidu, Atchenna, Pathrudu

The Election Commission of India has issued a notice to Nara Chandrababu Naidu, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), for purportedly violating the Model Code of Conduct during his campaign speeches on March 31, 2024.

The notice was issued following a complaint filed by Lella Appi Reddy, State General Secretary of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), and another individual.

TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu, during his campaign rallies held in Yemmiganur, Markapuram, and Bapatla constituencies reportedly used derogatory language, referring to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as a Monster, Animal, Thief and various other insulting and offensive terms.

The Election Commission has reviewed the speeches in question, which were provided in a pen drive, and has determined that they prima facie violate provisions of the Model Code of Conduct.

As per the notice issued by the Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu has been given 48 hours to provide an explanation regarding the derogatory remarks made against the YSR Congress Party and its leader, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The Election Commission also issued notices to TDP AP unit president Kinjarapu Atchannaidu and senior TDP leader Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu for the derogatory remarks against the chief minister. It was alleged that the two leaders posted in the social media making wild allegations against the chief minister.

The EC had asked the two leaders to give their reply at the earliest. The EC also cautioned the other leaders against making wild allegations against the rivals. It also wanted the leaders to restrain from making derogatory allegations against the rivals.
