It has been 19 years since Anubhav Sinha’s Dus was released in 2005. This action-packed thriller boasted a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Zayed Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Raima Sen, Esha Deol, and Dia Mirza, with Pankaj Kapur playing the main villain. Dus is inspired by the true stories of seven fictional members of the Indian Special Investigation Team (SIT). It’s a great time to watch this film again, and you can catch it on JioCinema, Prime Video, ShemarooMe, and Lionsgate.
The action thriller Dus centers around Siddharth Dheer (Dutt), the head of the Indian Anti-Terrorist Squad, and his team’s efforts to prevent a terrorist attack targeting thousands of people in Canada. Himmat Mehndi, a gangster, gives information about the plot to three notorious mafias—Jambval (Kapur), Asif, and Himmat Mehndi. The movie depicts the squad’s successful efforts to thwart Jambval’s evil plans, leading to a gripping climax. Trade Reports indicate that Dus had a successful opening weekend at the box office in India. Despite its high budget, it managed to earn, resulting in a decent success. By the end of 2005, it ranked as the ninth highest-grossing film.
Dus interestingly pays tribute to the late filmmaker Mukul S. Anand, who tragically passed away while filming the incomplete 1997 version of the movie. The main stars were Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan, with Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty as the female leads. The film featured action sequences reminiscent of Sylvester Stallone’s work and centered around terrorist attacks in Kashmir.
