Devadoothan becomes a massive blockbuster in its Re-Release

Devadoothan, a musical mystery film featuring Mohanlal in the principal role, was re-released in theaters on July 26, 2024. Directed by Sibi Malayil, the film initially underperformed at the box office upon its original release but is now receiving the recognition it deserves after 24 years. As the film entered its second week of re-release, Devadoothan 4K has achieved the status of the highest-grossing re-release film in Malayalam cinema, surpassing the previous record held by the Mohanlal film Spadikam, directed by Bhadran.

Recent reports from industry analysts indicate that Devadoothan 4K has achieved a global gross revenue of approximately Rs. 3.25 crore following the conclusion of its second weekend in re-release. Consequently, the film directed by Sibi Malayil has outperformed the total earnings of Spadikam 4K, which was directed by Bhadran and re-released in February 2023. For those unfamiliar, Spadikam garnered Rs. 3.1 crore during its entire re-release period. This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for the film featuring Mohanlal and Jayaprada, which initially faced commercial failure. Considering the current box office trend, it is highly likely that Devadoothan 4K will surpass the Rs. 4 crore mark during its theatrical run. The re-release strategy is anticipated to continue with the upcoming Manichitrathazhu 4K version, scheduled to premiere on August 17, 2024, coinciding with Chingam 1. Given the cult classic status and solid fan base of Manichitrathazhu, it is reasonable to expect that the film may become the first re-released movie to exceed the Rs. 5 crore mark at the box office.

Devadoothan 4K is projected to remain in theaters for a few more weeks, showing on over 200 screens worldwide. Directed by Sibi Malayail and featuring Mohanlal as musician Vishal Krishnamoorthy, the film is currently garnering significant praise for its outstanding performances, impressive production, and, notably, the exceptional music score composed by Vidyasagar.
