Come alone, Jagan dares Naidu

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday dared TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu to come alone for the impending general elections to the state Assembly. He asked Naidu not to look for alliance and come alone if he is sure of YSR Congress defeat in the elections.

Speaking in the Assembly on thanks giving motion to Governor’s speech, Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the opposition was speaking about the YSR Congress defeat in the elections. If they are confident of their victory, why are they looking for alliance? Why do they want unity among opposition parties? Why is Naidu desperately looking for alliance with the BJP, he asked.

He said that Naidu had promised Rs 15,000 per month to every woman which would cost Rs 36,180 crore. Another scheme of three gas cylinders free would cost Rs 4,634 crore followed by Rs 15,000 to every child would cost Rs 12,450 crore and free bus travel Rs 2,500 crore, unemployment stipend Rs 7,200 crore and farmers Rs 10,706 crore. All this would cost Rs 73,440 crore, he said adding that the mandatory schemes in the state like pension, Arogya Sri would cost Rs 52,700 crore. Both put together it would cost Rs 1,26,140 crore to the state exchequer, he said. He wondered where Chandrababu Naidu would bring this money if the state had become Sri Lanka by now!

He said that Naidu did not fulfill his promise of total loan waiver to the farmers in the 2014 general election. His promise would have cost the exchequer Rs 87,612 crore while Naidu had waived just Rs 15,000 crore after four years. He wanted to know if people would believe Naidu once again.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said that his government started with Rs 2.67 lakh crore debt in 2019. There was devastating Covid 19 which had adverse impact on the state revenues, he said. However, despite all that they were able to run the show, he said.

The covid had affected the Central devolution, he said adding that the state was given Rs 32,780.59 crore during 2018-19 while it had come down to Rs 28,011.64 crore in the subsequent year which further fell to just Rs 24,460.33 crore due to covid 19, he said.

Jagan said that Naidu and his team were spreading lies against the government. He dared them to prove their lies if Naidu had any respect for the people. He said that there was not a single scheme that would remind people of Naidu.
