Chilli Chicken is now streaming on OTT

Prateek Joshi’s Chilli Chicken is now streaming on OTT. According to Prateek, the director of the film, Chilli Chicken is not only a popular Chinese dish, but it is also a racial slur that is commonly used against people from the North-East of India. As his film deals with the story of a group of migrant workers from the North-East who come to work in a Chinese eatery, the director thought that it would be an appropriate title for his film. It is said that Chilli Chicken’s story was inspired by a real-life event that happened at a restaurant in Bangalore, but it is not specified whether the director put that incident in the film.

The film tells the story of workers employed at a Chinese restaurant run by Adarsh (Shrunga BV). Adarsh dreams of owning a big Chinese restaurant. However, his financial situation does not allow him to achieve his dream, and the migrant workers who work for Adarsg are also affected by it. The workers’ group stays in a shabby quarter for which Adarsh pays, and they face racist taunts daily from the locals.

Chilli Chicken not only shows the plight of the North-East migrant workers, but it also focuses on how small-time entrepreneurs struggle to achieve their dreams. The film was released in theaters this June, and it received mostly positive reviews. After a two-month gap from the theatrical release, Chilli Chicken arrived on OTT Prime Video without any prior notice. The interesting thing is that unlike the recent Kannada films, this movie is not in rental mode and is available for all the regular subscribers.
