It is widely known that under the direction of his daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth, Superstar Rajinikanth was featured in the period sports drama Lal Salaam alongside Vishnu Vishal and Vikrant. Rajini played a crucial role in the film, which was around 40 minutes long. The makers publicized it as an extended cameo only, but still, the character or the film did not meet the expectations of the audiences and fans. The superstar’s fans were not at all happy with how the character of their matinee idol was presented, and they felt that a better role would have done justice to the image of Rajini. Owing to such disastrous word of mouth, Lal Salaam became a big disaster at the box office in both Telugu and Tamil.
Despite the lackluster performance of Lal Salaam at the box office, there are reports that Netflix has acquired the digital streaming rights for the film for a reasonable price. Although speculations online hint at a Netflix premiere in the first week of March, this information has yet to be officially confirmed. Usually, Tamil and Telugu films have a four-week gap between the theatrical and OTT releases. Now, we will have to wait and see whether the film Lal Salaam can turn the tables upon its OTT Release and get a good response from the viewers.
Apart from the lead actors, the movie also includes Jeevitha Rajashekar, Dhanya Balakrishna, Thambi Ramaiah, Ananthika Sanilkumar, Vivek Prasanna, and Thangadurai in significant roles. AR Rahman is the music director for Lyca Productions’ project.
