The release date for Kalki 2898 AD was officially announced yesterday, causing anticipation among fans as the movie is scheduled to premiere on 27 June. Filmed mainly in Telugu with certain scenes re-filmed in Hindi, Kalki 2898 AD is a forthcoming 2024 Indian epic science-fiction dystopian film co-scripted and helmed by Nag Ashwin. Drawing inspiration from Hindu mythology, the movie is set in a post-apocalyptic universe in 2898 AD.
To recoup the rumored 600-crore budget, the movie must excel in Telugu states, Hindi territories, and international markets. Prabas’s earlier films, like Saaho and Salaar, were good hits in Hindi, but Kalki should collect much more than those films to establish itself as a successful film in the Hindi market. It must have a solid opening and maintain its momentum for several weeks to be considered a triumph. To ensure a successful opening day, it is crucial to have a well-received trailer, captivating songs, and impactful promotional materials that enthrall the Hindi audience.
Reportedly, Anil Thadani has acquired the Hindi theatrical rights of Kalki 2898 AD for a whopping 100 crores. For the film to be successful, it must earn a minimum of 200-220 crores net. Although Nag Ashwin may not be well-known to the Hindi audience, the star-studded cast, including Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani, and Kamal Haasan, is sure to generate excitement. With no major releases scheduled for the next two months, viewers will eagerly anticipate some thrilling entertainment. Kalki 2898 AD will be one of the first significant releases after the IPL and election season, providing an opportunity to capitalize on this timing and generate positive word-of-mouth. The film’s Hindu-centric theme, based on Indian mythology, could also be one of its most significant selling points. If everything falls into place, we may witness Prabhas’ second biggest hit in Hindi, following the success of Baahubali 2.
