Box Office: Dull Phase Continues for Telugu Cinema

On May 10, 2024, two medium-budget films, Krishnamma and Prathinidhi 2, were released in Telugu cinema. Unfortunately, both of these films have had a rather disappointing start at the box office. Numerous films are showcased in Telugu cinema every Friday; this particular Friday was no exception.

Prathinidhi 2 got good publicity before its release. This political drama signifies Nara Rohit’s return to the film industry. Regarded as a propaganda film, Prathinidhi 2 was helmed by Murthy, a journalist from TV 5, but unfortunately, it did not fare well at the box office. Serving as a sequel to the successful film Prathinidhi, Prathinidhi 2 fell short compared to its predecessor. Despite its release during the election period in AP, it failed to generate any substantial revenue. The disheartening fact is that Prathinidhi 2 couldn’t even surpass the mark of 1 crore rupees in its first two days of screening. This clearly indicates the film’s unfortunate rejection.

Another film is Satyadev’s Krishnamma. Despite a strong plot and impressive acting from Satyadev, the movie did not successfully attract box office audiences. Krishnamma earned around Rs 1 crore on its first day but struggled on the second day. Krishnamma received subpar reviews, and the absence of star power failed to captivate the audience. Today, Sunday (May 12), presents the film with its sole opportunity to generate revenue. Once the elections commence in AP, films will be disregarded for approximately the next ten days.
