This week, on August 2, Bollywood experienced the release of two significant films: “Ulajh,” featuring Janhvi Kapoor, and “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha,” starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu. Although these releases may have heightened expectations among audiences, the box office figures tell a different story. Before their debut, the pre-sales for both films appeared lackluster, and the initial day earnings also needed to be more impressive.
Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha has initiated with a collection of almost Rs. 2 crores, while Ulajh has started with Rs. 1 crore. This was in line with expectations, as the former was projected to open in the range of Rs. 2-3 crores, whereas the latter was expected to cross the Rs. 1 crore mark barely. With Deadpool & Wolverine already slowing down during the weekdays, there was no competition for these two films. Additionally, no other Hindi films were competing with Bad Newz, which had already exhausted a significant portion of the audience by the end of the second week. Despite this, audiences primarily visited theaters during the evening and night shows, resulting in some numbers. However, the morning and afternoon shows witnessed a rather bleak scenario.
Both films have yet to receive any enthusiastic reviews thus far. The movie featuring Ajay Devgn and Tabu was expected to attract a mature audience that appreciates traditional romance. In contrast, Janhvi Kapoor’s espionage thriller was expected to resonate with a specific segment of the urban intelligentsia. Today is crucial for both films; to sustain their performance leading up to the Independence Day weekend, they must at least double their earnings today.
