BCs slowly rallying around YSR Congress

The BCs in Andhra Pradesh have started moving towards the ruling YSR Congress. There is a slow move from them towards the ruling party as elections are approaching fast.

It is said that the election schedule is likely to be brought forward to March, the first phase of elections to be held in four States for the Assemblies and the Parliament. The Election Commission is planning to have the elections in Andhra Pradesh in the first phase, mostly in April.

With the election fever gripping the state, the BCs are looking at the ruling YSR Congress. The party had done so much for the BCs in the last five years. The party had created 56 BC corporations and given a massive membership for them.

Besides, two BCs were sent to Rajya Sabha – Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose and Mopidevi Venkata Ramana. The two BCs were earlier ministers in the State cabinet and their elevation to Rajya Sabha was a big boost to the BCs in the state.

The state government had given highest priority to the BCs in various nominated posts in the state. As much as 50 per cent of the nominated posts were given to the BCs and a huge budget allocation was done for their welfare in the last five years.

Even in the state cabinet, more than 20 per cent Ministers are from the BCs, a big boost never happened in the Independent India. Perhaps for the first time in the country, chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had given highest preference to the BCs in various posts and schemes.

With all this done in five years, the BCs in the state are moving towards the YSR Congress. That was a great signal for the ruling party to retain its power in the coming elections. It is to be seen how good the BCs would rally behind the ruling YSR Congress as the bell rings for the elections.
