Baak Review

Story:

Shiva Shankar (Sundar C) is an honest lawyer. He discovers that his sister Shivani (Tamannaah) has committed suicide one day and her husband passed away mysteriously in a forest. Shiva Shankar is puzzled by this shocking news , and he decides to search for answers to the deaths of Shivani and her husband. Shiva Shankar’s quest to solve the mystery is portrayed throughout the rest of the film.

Performances:

Sundar C was effective as the main character. Tamannaah Bhatia was good and especially her performance in the second half, deserves applause. Raashii Khanna has a decent role and she was fine. Ramachandra Raju was effective in a crucial role while Jayaprakash, Kovai Sarala and others were okay. Vennela Kishore and Sreenivasa Reddy’s Comedy only works in one episode.

Analysis:

Sundar C comes up with another Horror Entertainer. Though the film’s main plot and few moments are Predictable, the director was successful in creating a new backdrop and good twists to it. Because of the addition of Baak character, the film gets a new dimension which makes it interesting. Both the halves have the same kind of tone with comedy and thrills being mixed, but the second half has the tone of sentiment understandably.

Positives:

In terms of technical proficiency, Baak stands out. The team has put great effort into the visuals, background score, and production values. The production team has invested a significant amount of money, and the quality can be seen on the screen in every frame.

The horror effects are well-done, and the background score by Hip Hop Tamizha is a great compliment to the scary moments. From the pre-interval sections, the movie gains momentum. The interval is preceded by a series of interesting events, which increases curiosity about the proceedings. The second half has all the dots nicely connected. The background score provided by Hiphop Tamizha was superb.

Negatives:

The Slapstick comedy is not suitable for most situations and adds to the irritation. The fun scenes are completely improper and reduce the impact of the narrative. Vennela Kishore and Sreenivas Reddy’s comedy does not work except for the pre climax episode. Baak follows the same pattern as the other films in the Aranmanai franchise and lacks any uniqueness. The plot is predictable, and a few parts will give the predictable feel. The song near the climax could have been done away with.

Review: (2.75/5)
Last Line: Baak – A Decent Horror Thriller
