Arrowverse stars Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell have both commented on the possibility of returning as their iconic characters in James Gunn’s DC Universe. However, while fans have expressed interest in seeing them reprise their roles, it may not be the best move for the franchise.
Stephen Amell’s portrayal of Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow, was pivotal in establishing the Arrowverse, a shared DC TV universe that spanned several shows and seasons. Similarly, Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen, aka The Flash, became a fan-favorite character and a central figure in the Arrowverse.
Despite their popularity, both actors have different views on returning to the DC Universe. Gustin has expressed his trust in James Gunn, stating that he would return as The Flash if asked. However, Gunn has debunked rumors of Gustin’s return, indicating that it may not be in the cards.
On the other hand, Amell is more cautious about joining the DC Universe. While he has not ruled out a return as Green Arrow, he has stated that he would like to see footage from one of the DC Universe’s projects before making a decision. Amell has also expressed satisfaction with his portrayal of Oliver Queen in Arrow, which ran for eight seasons and 170 episodes.
While both Gustin and Amell’s return to the DC Universe would undoubtedly excite fans, it may be best for the franchise to start fresh with new actors in these roles. Recasting these characters would allow the DC Universe to establish its own identity and narrative without being tied to the continuity of the Arrowverse.
