Apple Launches Dedicated Sports App for iPhone Users

Apple has expanded its foray into sports with the launch of a dedicated Apple Sports app, now available on the App Store in the U.S, Canada, and the U.K. The free app provides users with play-by-play updates, stats, box scores, and betting odds, with the option to disable the latter. Compatible with any iPhone running iOS 17.2 or later, the app aims to enhance the sports viewing experience for enthusiasts.

The Apple Sports app allows users to personalize their experience by selecting their favorite sports leagues and teams. Upon setup, the app automatically displays past and upcoming games for the selected teams. Additionally, users who have already chosen their favorite teams and leagues in the Apple News or Apple TV apps can transfer them to Apple Sports seamlessly. Moreover, users subscribed to sports streaming platforms can directly tune in to live games from within the app’s scorecards.

Currently, Apple Sports supports major leagues such as MLS, NBA, NCAA basketball (men’s and women’s), NHL, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Liga MX, Ligue 1, and the Premier League. Apple has also confirmed plans to add additional leagues, including MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL, and WNBA, for the upcoming season. This move further solidifies Apple’s commitment to providing a comprehensive sports experience for its users.
