Kalki 2898 AD has turned out to be a monster of a film at the box office and has managed to surpass every expectation with flying colors. The movie has managed to re-establish Prabhas in the Pan-India circle after the dent made by Adipurush and partially healed by Salaar: Part 1. However, the success of Kalki Tsunami, while providing much validation to the makers and team of the film, has turned out to be a source of tension for the makers of other tentpole movies set to release around it. Indian 2 is much beyond these games, but we have recently seen Ajay Devgn and Tabu starrer Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha pushing its release date to August 2 from July 5. However, it seems like another massive star is clearing the way for the Kalki storm by taking off their planned release from the calendar. The potential impact of Kalki 2898 AD on other movies, such as the rumors about Sarfira now talk of postponing the movie, is a cause for concern.
Akshay Kumar’s film Sarfira has been quietly gaining attention, with promotions kept relatively low-key. The production team heavily utilized the internet to focus on the music album and other promotional materials. This movie, a remake of Soorarai Pottru, features Kumar in Suriya’s role and Radhika Madan as the female lead. Despite being scheduled for release on July 12, rumors are circulating that the movie might be delayed. According to a recent report, the release of Sarfira could be pushed back due to the strong impact of the Kalki 2898 AD trend. The report cites a source explaining the challenges of competing with Kalki and facing off against Hindustani 2. The source also mentions Akshay Kumar’s recent movies that did not perform well, potentially influencing the decision to postpone the release.
According to a source familiar with the situation who spoke to Bollywood Media, and said the producers have not made a decision yet regarding the postponement of Sarfira. The uncertainty of the situation adds to the intrigue, especially considering Kalki’s strong presence, Kamal Haasan’s Hindustani 2 scheduled for July 12, and Akshay Kumar’s recent low success rate. It is likely that Sarfira will be delayed, but the exact decision is still up in the air. If Sarfira does get postponed, it will need to find a safer release window, which currently seems to be the first half of August, overlapping with Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha. The competition intensifies in mid-August, with Stree 2, Vedaa, and Akshay’s other film, Khel Khel Mein, set for release on August 15. It will be intriguing to see which date the producers of the Akshay Kumar film opt for if they choose to delay its release. Notably, both Singham Again and Pushpa: The Rule have vacated the August 15 release date.
